Xavier Llano

Technical Specialist – United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

Xavier Llano is a technical specialist, developer, and conservation planner. He is heavily involved in the development and maintenance of the ELSA webtools, ensuring their smooth operation and continuous improvement. He assists in setting up, maintaining, and updating the code and servers to run ELSA planning tools and employs data pipelines to automate code updating and tool deployment. Additionally, he supports and maintains containerization via Docker and optimizes cloud resources for the ELSA webtools, facilitating their transition to UNICC servers. In addition to his technical responsibilities, he provides invaluable support for the ELSA webtools, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with the Spatial Planner and Lead Scientist to resolve them promptly. He also offers assistance in cleaning and processing input data layers for ELSA tools and provides general GIS support for SCP tools. Xavier is a PhD student in the Natural Resources and Environmental Studies program at the University of Northern British Columbia and is an integral part of the Conservation Solution Lab research group, focusing on conservation planning and climate change.
